IOPC Funds publishes HNS brochure
Posted: 17/04/2025
The IOPC Funds has published a new general overview brochure on the International Convention on Liability and Compensation for Damage in Connection with the Carriage of Hazardous and Noxious Substances (HNS) by Sea. The brochure provides a comprehensive overview of the HNS Convention, its current status, and the reporting requirements for HNS cargo.
The brochure is available to download under the Resources section. Hard copies are also available on request via the publications section of the IOPC Funds’ website.
Twelve States must accede to the HNS Protocol in order for the treaty to enter into force. Out of that number, eight States have ratified the Protocol, with commitments from many other States to do the same. It is expected that the 2010 HNS Convention will enter into force in 2027, some 18 months after the criteria have been fulfilled.
Further information on the HNS Convention and the 2010 HNS Protocol can be found at www.hnsconvention.org.
