The IOPC Funds launched the latest module in its webinar series, entitled ‘The HNS Convention: Why it is Needed Now’, delivering the first session focused on ‘Understanding the Convention’ on 5 March 2025.
HNS Project Manager, Gillian Grant, delivered a concise 15-minute presentation outlining the HNS Convention, including its status, the types of damage and claims it covers and its overall significance. She also highlighted the importance of the Convention and the IOPC Funds’ role in preparations towards its entry into force.
The webinar series, delivered in English only, is open to any interested party, and participants can opt to attend either the full series or only those webinars of particular interest to them. The series covers everything from a basic understanding of the Conventions to the financing of the system, the types of claims arising from tanker incidents and the claims submission process. Each webinar consists of a short 15‐minute presentation followed by a 15-minute Q&A session. To accommodate participants from different time zones, each session is conducted at two separate times – 10:00AM UK time and 4:00PM UK time.
The final session of the IOPC Funds’ webinar series, entitled ‘Reporting Requirements and Contributions under the HNS Convention’, will take place on 28 May 2025. This session will explore how the HNS Fund will be financed and emphasise the importance of proper HNS cargo reporting.
